~Hawaii by the day~

August 29, 2010
Sunday morning we got up and got ready for church. We were headed out to a place in West Oahu called Hope Chapel. Derek and Michelle had gone once when they first got into town, and then when Roger (our pastor here) spoke. So we wanted to check it out! And in watching the Pastor, Mike Kai, speak, I saw quickly why he and Roger are such good friends! After church, we decided to make the trek up Diamond Head. It was tricky, but I felt like a super star when I got to the top! It's funny the little things that make me feel normal. Sometimes my heart disease can be frustrating and overwhelming, because I can't always act like a regular person. My disease has times of holding me back, but thank God, not this day! I loved it!!!

Poor Josh had the camera, we don't tend to trust me with it in situations where I could drop it or destroy it, so you mainly get to see his view of the hike! And look at Owen, sweet guy was plain tuckered out! He spent the night with us, going out to dinner and hanging out while Derek & Michelle had a much needed date night.

This kid can boogie board like crazy! Saturday morning we got up and went back down to the lagoon. Friday night was Derek's last night of work while we were in town, so he was trying to rest up Saturday morning. We knew that once he got up on Saturday, the tourist-y events would commence!
Josh and Owen having guy time!
We went to a luau on that Saturday night. It was such a great time! Apparently everybody we talked to has also been to this exact luau!

We spent Friday at Hunauma Bay. It's supposed to be a great place to snorkel - though I spent all of 45 seconds snorkeling. Owen was being really indecisive with the snorkeling thing, so he and i played by the shore, while Michelle and Josh snorkeled. Owen sure looked cute in his flippers though!

AUGUST 26, 2010

This was Derek's last day of work for the duration of our visit, so we stuck around the neighborhood again, and just relaxed in the sun and water

This kid is such a fish now! It was so fun to watch him just play in the water!
Owen swam ALL the way across the lagoon with Uncle Joshie... TWICE! Here he is swimming all by himself where he can't even touch the bottom!
Josh was thinking about his little sister Robyn, this used to be her signature pose.
Michelle and I working on the best tan we could get!
So, Owen found this little boy to play with named Max, and Max had a boogie board with a spy hole on it, so the boys could see under water without snorkel gear. They were arguing over it a bit, so Max's mom blew up this floatie... and it's obvious Owen loved it!

Michelle and Owen took the morning to show us around their neighborhood, and of course get COFFEE!
They showed us their favorite ice cream shop, and Owen got a treat from the girls who work there... a piece of chocolate dipped waffle cone, which of course melted all over those little hands of his... so he tracked down a bathroom, and kept his hands free of just about everything around him on the way!

While Derek had to work the 1st few days we were there, we took that time to do the more "non-touristy" things around the island... so we went to the Honolulu Zoo, and Owen loved it!

After leaving the zoo, we went over to the Aquarium... definitely not as cool as the zoo, but fun nonetheless!

AUGUST 24, 2010

flying into Oahu... we flew Hawaiian Airlines and we will DEFINITELY fly them when we go back to the islands!
Owen was so happy to have us there, he carried my HUGE bag! I wish I had pictures of him or video of his reaction to picking us up at the airport. He came running up to me yelling "AUNTIE!!!" and I scooped him up and he hugged me so hard and took my face in his hands and said "oh Auntie, I like you so much I love you!" and hugged me again. It was hard not to cry!

Just after getting to their house, we changed, and went and lounged by Owen's favorite place to play, the Hilton's lagoon! So nice and relaxing!
Our first Waikiki night. LOVE IT!
